L'Illusion du Mariage
In 2017 Narine brings to the 57th Biennale di Venezia her new creation. Under the curation of Anton Levahin the artistic research by Narine Arakelyan «L'Illusion de Marriage» will be presented in Venice. The show has been created in collaboration with Laboratory ABC.

Artist has worked on the expansion of the arts searching for ways to express the quintessential human yearning to make sense of the world. In her new work Narine reacts to the changes in our perception and experience traditions connected to marriage, which were brought about by science, media and new materials. Using language of performance, video and installation Narine Arakelian creates a world in which the interpenetration and intertwining of the illusory and true values in the life of a person, their social body and spiritual needs, full of contradictions, tensions, harmony and beauty are reflected.

Narine believes that art is a means of transcending and adding precision in order to question the conventional concept of marriage, and looking for ways to express the harmony and the emotional sincerity possible in human unit. The complexity of her new work and its tight connection to the history of art was partly dictated by the location where it is to be present.

Love is ...
The new piece to be presented during the Biennale is a collaborative piece with contributions from Anton Levahin, curator, Julia Gertseva, opera singer, Ahsar Muriev, scenographer, Mic Sachkov, a video artist, and Danila Polyakov, a performer. Narine Arakelian sees collaboration as a way to add new dimension and outside perspectives, testing the universal potential of her ideas. Together the artists focus on marriage as a social gesture, and study the ceremonial transition from one state to another. This transition is simultaneously denied and recognized by modern society and individual consciousness. The project is a result of a fundamental research and artistic exploration of the themes of tradition and modernity, collective illusion and individual freedom, the entertainment industry, economic interest and the eternal desire for a better life, procreation, rebirth and immortality.
